By the end of the first session the intense pain was easing and following a course of treatment with massage, infra red and electrotherapy, combined with a gentle exercise programme, I am now pain free. I returned to Ellie earlier this year with Lower Back pain. She is working her magic again and combined with her Pilates sessions I am feeling so much stronger and better able to avoid further injury. I would highly recommend Ellie Physiotherapy in Didsbury.Posted on Google Bruno RitoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a few sessions with Ellie after getting the biggest back blockage and terrible pain I've ever had in my life, I was astonished by how fast she arranged to see me and the results I got from each sessions. After 4 visits my blockage was history , thanks Ellie!Posted on Google Shireen FelicityTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ellie’s help has been central to my recovery! When I twisted my ankle in December, I had to stop doing all of the activities I enjoyed such as walking, running and hiking. I googled some stretches to do but found there wasn’t much improvement in 3-4 weeks, and I thought I might have to cancel some holidays I have coming up this year. In my first session with Ellie, she took time to really talk to me and get an understanding of my pain, explaining how my injury had affected the different parts of my ankle, and managing my expectations regarding my immediate and long term recovery which was more helpful than just googling my symptoms. Ellie’s guidance on how to gently build up my strength through targeted exercises that I could do between sessions, as well as physical therapies like massages and ultrasound treatment (which is amazing!) have made my ankle feel just like it did before! Her clinic is well situated in Didsbury, being easy to access by bus, tram or car, and she is so kind and caring, really supporting me through my recovery, both physically, but also mentally understanding how to tailor my return to my usual activities to avoid reinjury. I couldn’t recommend her enough.Posted on Google Francesca BryanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just want to say a HUGE thank you to Ellie for helping to sort my sciatic and arm strain problems. On a personal level, Ellie is such a lovely and thoughtful person who showed she was genuinely interested in me by taking the time to talk things through with me and show me what I needed to do to improve things. Each of my 3 visits showed me what a caring, intelligent, and truly wonderful person. On a professional level, Ellie knows her stuff and with her guidance and treatment suggestions, I feel I am well on the way to recovery and given that I was struggling to exercise, walk and sleep due to the pain the progress made has been amazing. I have a further and last visit soon and although I am supremely happy with the outcome, I will miss my appointments with Ellie. However at least I now know where to go on anything Physiotherapy related and won't hesitate to contact Ellie as and when that happens. Thank you Ellie. You are an angel!Posted on Google Ash HTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ellie is the best! I can't recommend Ellie Physiotherapy & Wellness highly enough. I came to Ellie with persistent lower back pain caused by a herniated disc that was aggravating my sciatic nerve. From the very first session, Ellie took the time to thoroughly assess my condition, explain what was going on in a way I could actually understand, and map out a tailored treatment strategy that made all the difference. The therapies she used on site were incredibly effective – a mix of hands-on treatment and guided exercises that targeted the source of the problem rather than just masking the symptoms. She also provided clear, practical advice on how to manage and improve my condition between sessions, which really helped me take control of my recovery. What sets Ellie apart is not just her clinical expertise but her fantastic interpersonal skills. She has a warm, approachable manner and genuinely cares about her clients’ wellbeing. She remembered details from our previous sessions, always followed up on how I was doing, and created an environment where I felt listened to and supported. Thanks to Ellie, I’m finally seeing real progress with my back and feel more confident in managing my physical health long term. If you're struggling with pain or injury, don't hesitate to get in touch with her – she's outstanding.Posted on Google FahidTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What is tennis elbow and golfer's elbow?
Despite their names, you do not need to play tennis or golf to develop these conditions.
Tennis elbow usually causes pain around the outside of the elbow, while golfer's elbow affects the inside of the elbow.
Both can involve the tendons that connect the forearm muscles to the elbow and can become painful when they are repeatedly overloaded.
These problems can develop gradually or after a change in activity. Repetitive gripping, lifting, twisting, manual work, racket sports, golf and gym training can all contribute.
Tennis elbow symptoms
You may have tennis elbow if you experience:Pain or tenderness on the outside of the elbowPain when gripping or liftingDiscomfort when opening jars or turning door handlesPain using a computer mouse or keyboardWeakness when carrying objectsPain during gym exercises or racket sportsAching into the forearm
Golfer's elbow symptoms
You may have golfer's elbow if you experience:
Pain or tenderness on the inside of the elbow
Pain when gripping or carrying objects
Discomfort when lifting weights
Pain when twisting the forearm
Symptoms when using tools or performing repetitive manual workPain during golf, throwing or other sporting activitiesAching into the forearm
Why does my elbow keep hurting?
Elbow pain is not always as simple as having a “damaged tendon”.Your symptoms may be linked to how much load your elbow is coping with, recent changes in your activity, repetitive work, training demands, grip strength or the way you are moving.
Sometimes the problem develops after suddenly doing more than usual.
You may have increased your gym training, started a new job, spent more time gardening or DIYing, or returned to a sport after a break
.Other times, symptoms build up gradually.
This is why I don't just focus on the painful area.
During your assessment, I take the time to understand how your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, what demands your work or sport places on your body and what you want to get back to.
Why choose Ellie Physiotherapy & Wellness for elbow pain?
When you're in pain, choosing the right person to see can feel overwhelming.
You may find large clinics with multiple therapists, different treatment options and lots of promises
.My approach is much simpler.
You see me.
I'm the person who assesses you.
I'm the person who treats you.
I'm the person who gives you your rehabilitation programme.
And I'm the person who follows your progress.
You won't be passed from therapist to therapist.
Your treatment is genuinely one-to-one and personalised around your symptoms, lifestyle and goals.
How long does tennis or golfer's elbow take to improve?
There isn't a fixed recovery time. Some people improve relatively quickly, while persistent elbow pain can take longer to settle.
Your recovery can depend on how long you've had symptoms, how sensitive the elbow is, what demands you're placing on it and how gradually you're able to rebuild your strength and activity.
I'll help you understand what to expect and adjust your programme as you progress.
The aim is not to rush you back to activity and hope for the best.
It's to build your capacity so you can return with confidence.
You don't have to wait until your elbow is unbearable
It's easy to keep putting elbow pain off.You might think:
“I'll give it another couple of weeks.”“
I'll just rest it.”“
It'll probably settle down.”
Sometimes it does. But if your pain is affecting your work, exercise, sport or everyday life — or keeps returning whenever you become more active — it's worth getting it assessed.
A thorough assessment can help you understand what's going on and give you a clear direction rather than leaving you guessing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is tennis elbow only caused by tennis?
No. Tennis elbow can affect people who don't play tennis at all. Repetitive gripping, lifting, manual work, gym training and other activities can all place increased load on the tendons around the outside of the elbow.
Is golfer's elbow only caused by golf?
No. Golfer's elbow can occur with repetitive gripping and forearm activity, including gym training, manual work and other repetitive activities.
Do I need to stop exercising?
Not necessarily. I'll help you understand how to modify your activity while maintaining as much movement and exercise as is appropriate for you.
Will you give me exercises?
Yes, where appropriate. Your exercises will be selected according to your assessment and progressed as your strength and tolerance improve.
Do I need a scan?
Not usually. Many elbow problems can be assessed through a detailed clinical assessment. If I think further investigation is appropriate, I'll explain why and advise you on the next step.
Can elbow pain come back?
It can, particularly if your elbow is exposed to more load than it is currently prepared to handle. That's why rehabilitation isn't just about reducing today's pain. I want to help you build the strength and capacity needed for your normal activities.
Where are you based?
I provide one-to-one physiotherapy from my clinic in West Didsbury, Manchester, helping people from Didsbury and across South Manchester.
